Centralized modular motor control has proven to be more cost effective than stand alone combination motor starters and offer the added advantage of similar (same brand) parts. Southland stocks replacement parts for all units. Motor control centers can incorporate standard NEMA (national electrical manufacturers association) rated starters as well as IEC units.

The vertical sections are broken down into 6 inch increments and use modular cubicle bucket inserts. NEMA Size 1-5 magnetic motor starter combinations (circuit breaker and fusible), reduced voltage soft starting (solid state, wye delta, part winding, auto transformer) PLC (programmable logic controllers) and lighting panels are available as inserts. The Furnas System 89 motor control centers feature a vertical bus that provides unlimited unit insert arrangements which are connected to a central horizontal bus. This helps optimize temperature distribution inside the Furnas System 89 MCC as well as convenient bus splicing.

Southland professionally reconditions motor control centers from all major manufacturers. Centers are custom configured and tested by trained technicians with over 60 years of combined experience. Each motor control center ships with thermal units, fuses, pilot lights, pushbuttons, & selector switches (where specified).

Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse developed the low voltage Motor Control Center (MCC) nearly fifty years ago. This grouping of electrical controls allowed for supervision and safe operation of motor starter units, feeder tap units, and auxiliary equipment in a versatile structure at a focal location.

Today's motor control centers are modular plug-in combinations of motor controllers enclosed in metal structures which prevent contact with other electrical parts. The motor control centers structure consists of structural steel, horizontal and vertical wire ways, and horizontal and vertical bus systems for power distribution.

Here are some additional features of the motor control centers:

Many different size factors, which means flexibility
Components are easily accessed through the front
Plug in units are easy to remove via 1/4 turn latches
All units are isolated to contain faults and enhance servicing
Self aligning stab assemblies made to ground safely
Operating handle easy to use and lockable
Plug in units are designed with interlocks to prevent removal when energized
All plug-in buckets come with built in wiring units to prevent 'stuffing' of wires
Full range of a variety of NEMA starters and other units
