Three phase full voltage magnetic motor starters FVNR (full voltage non reversing), FVR (full voltage reversing) & MSS (multi speed starter) connect motors directly across the line allowing it to draw inrush current during startup. Magnetic motor starters are most commonly used to control single and three phase motors. The starters have a magnetically initiated contactor (controlled by a coil) to make and break the power circuit and a thermal overload relay for over current protection. Conventional thermal overloads utilize heaters, or thermal overload heater strips, and are sized according to the FLA (full load amperage). Solid state overloads have an adjustable dial with a preset amp range.

For faster service please be prepared to furnish the following information:

  • Application (saw mill edger, trash pump, elevator, trash compactor, conveyor)
  • Single or three phase
  • Open or enclosed
  • Enclosure type NEMA-1 (indoor) NEMA 3-R (outdoor) NEMA-12 (dust tight) NEMA-4X (corrosion resistant)
  • Line voltage 208/230/277/380/480/600 Volt
  • Control or coil voltage 120/208/230/277/380/480/600 Volt
  • Auxiliary contact arrangement (N.O. normally open) (N.C. normally closed)
  • Controls (start stop buttons or pilot lights)

Southland Electrical Supply stocks new, new surplus, rebuilt and magnetic AC motor starters, definite purpose and lighting contactors. Our magnetic AC motor starters are professionally reconditioned (completely inspected, disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, lubricated and electrically/mechanically tested) and guaranteed for 1 full year.

We build and rebuild fractional and larger motor starters up to 400 horsepower**. Starters can be ordered open or enclosed for single and three phase applications. We stock original and aftermarket renewal parts like replacement contact kits, auxiliary contacts, replacement coils, armatures and overload relays.

MCC & Combination units with fused or circuit breaker type disconnects as well as custom specification starters can be assembled in less than a week. Control power transformers, pilot lights, selector switches, emergency stop and start stop buttons are common options. We specialize in rebuilding NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) as well as IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) equipment.

The motor starter is an integral part of our complete MCC motor control center offering. A large part of our business deals with up-fitting, upgrading and reconditioning unitized motor control centers and building custom pump panels for AC motors. With 30 years of business experience in the same location and over 200 years of combined product knowledge, Southland can exceed your expectations and deliver consistent high quality magnetic AC motor starters at a substantial discount in a very short period of time. Please call one of our dedicated sales professionals to configure a starter for your application.

** Southland is an authorized distributor or Motortronics solid state reduced voltage motor starters and AC inverters. Power demand planning and local codes may specify reduced voltage motor starting. If you are affected by any special requirement, please request more information about reduced voltage starting for larger Horse Power applications.
